Since She Asked About Inspiration

Since it's Friday, I was looking through old work with the "flashback Friday" theme in mind. I thought about Nicole's post from Monday about inspiration. I commented on her post that dreams are sometimes a source of inspiration for me and I thought I'd share an example.

The above is a segment of some sequential art I had done based on a dream I had. The art took the form of a graphic novel page.

It was a pretty scary and unsettling dream. It involved a lot of stairs and a lot of gray.
Here is a sketch for another panel:

It seems that painting my dreams helps me come to new levels of awareness about what is going on with me at a given time. Another part of myself speaks...to me.

  1. Love it, Ann Marie! It's like getting to peek inside your mind. I don't think I ever remember my dreams well enough to sketch them out. Do you do your drawings right after you wake up? You always hear about famous song writers or painters dreaming something and getting up in the middle of the night to jot it down. Very interesting.

  2. Ooh, that is very cool! I love both the drawings you posted. The first one has a great perspective going on! And the second is really cool too - I love the monotony of climbing stairs combined with the gray color - I'd love to see more in this direction - it's fun!! Thanks for sharing!

  3. Niclole-I don't usually draw them right after waking up. However, I have written down dreams upon awakening. In this case, I wrote the dream out first. Thanks for your comments.

  4. Thanks, Michelle. I would like to do more of this type of work. (Though I do have more images from this piece which I didn't post.)
