Monster Sketch

   Hi all.  So sorry I've been absent from my posting duties.  I'm hoping I can get myself pulled back together soon.  Here is a monster I'm working on for a birthday card concept.  I'm sort of playing with a new drawing style, though I'm not sure if it is a fluke or something I'll stick with a bit longer.  You can see a few other monsters I did in the same style over at my blog.

   I have to say, though, I am totally anxious about putting color to him.  I have a couple ideas of what I might want to do but it's that first move, that first color decision, that often holds me back.  Does anyone else deal with this?

  1. Sarah - he is fabulous! If you're nervous about diving into colors, maybe you can scan this drawing into your computer and play with colors first in either Illustrator or Photoshop before you paint? That way, no commitment. Can't wait to see the finished piece! Love him!

  3. Nicole, funny thing is that I paint in Photoshop so there really shouldn't be much hesitation, but for whatever reason I still hold back.

  4. Sarah - strange! Maybe the opposite would work for you, then? Print up several copies of your sketch and then just grab a box of crayons and color away like a kid until you find one you like. (o;

  5. heeehee!! He's adorable!! Actually, he looks a lot like me when I get my hands on cake. Hmmm...

    I think Nicole makes a great suggestion about printing out several and just playing. I've been trying that too ... it takes some of the anxiety out, since if I mess up, there's another one right there to pick up and try with. :)
